ABSTRACT
This paper analyzes the fiber-reinforced
polymer matrix composites used in
both flexible and rigid light armors,
their energy absorption mechanisms,
and their resistance to ballistic impacts.
Technologies such as S glass, aramid,
HMWPE, PBO and PIPD are highlighted
fibers. Existing and future highperformance
fibers are described in
applications for human and vehicle
protection against ballistics. Properties,
applications, advantages, limitations and
the influence of extreme environmental
factors are depicted and compared to
finally contrast the properties of the
resins used for light composite marors.
