Abstract

Social anxiety (SA) is a problem that can significantly impair people's academic, work, and relational performance. For this reason, this systematic review focused on determining the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in adults with SA by integrating the latest evidence. The PRISMA method was used to compile and analyze 12 clinical trials and empirical studies published in the PubMed, Scopus, and EBSCOhost databases between 2017 and 2025. The results indicated that 91.66% of the studies showed a statistically significant reduction (p < 0.05) in SA symptoms in the experimental groups, consistently outperforming the control groups. The interventions developed over 12 individual sessions proved to be effective in both traditional formats and self-help books and virtual reality modalities. Thus, it is suggested that ACT may be an effective and versatile alternative for the treatment of SA in adults, promoting psychological flexibility through its hexaflex model.
