Distributed leadership to strengthen collaborative work in higher education students: A systematic review

Abstract
Distributive leadership represents a key element to enhance the development of competencies in collaborative groups. The general objective of this systematic review study is to systematize and analyze the available scientific evidence on the relationship between distributed leadership and the strengthening of collaborative work in higher education students and as specific objectives to examine the distributed leadership strategies reported in empirical studies that favor collaborative work among university students and to assess the effects attributed to distributed leadership in the development of collaborative competencies in higher education students. A methodology was developed based on the PRISMA model where studies were selected from the PubMed, Web of Science, DOAJ and Google Scholar databases. The selected studies were 15 scientific articles published in the last five years on the contribution of distributive leadership in strengthening collaborative work in higher education students. The results report that distributive leadership predicts collective efficacy and improves academic performance. The distributed leadership strategies applied are linked to decentralization in decision making, promoting distribution patterns, the role of the leader as facilitator and horizontal structures. The most developed collaborative competencies are interpersonal and socio-emotional skills, co-responsibility, autonomy and conflict management. It is concluded that distributive leadership is an enhancer for the development of competencies in students, reduces stress, encourages commitment and increases satisfaction.
