Physical conditioning and its relationship with self-confidence in the under-14 basketball category

Abstract
This quasi-experimental study examined the effect of implementing a structured physical conditioning program on -self-confidence in eighty basketball players that belong to the category U14. The study was designed to determine the effects that puberty and self-confidence may have on physical conditioning with certain formative training methodologies.
An 8-week intervention was applied using the “Specific Physical Conditioning Program for Youth Basketball (PAFE-U). Pre-test and post test measurements were obtained through the administration of psychometric inventory, the CSAI-2R, along with a series of physical field tests.
The findings show a statistically significant increase (p < .001) in the athletes’ self-confidence, as the mean score increased from 18.45 to 24.10 points following the intervention. The study concludes that the development of conditional abilities (strength, speed, and endurance) functions both as a direct enhancer of self-efficacy and as a mitigating factor of competitive anxiety, thereby validating physical conditioning as a necessary component for psychological security during formative stages.
