Abstract
ABSTRACT
Premnotrypes vorax has become one of the most important insect pests in potato production in the provinces of Carchi, Cotopaxi, Chimborazo and Tungurahua. Populations of entomopathogenic nematodes of the genus Steinernema and Heterorhabditis that showed mortality percentages higher than 90% of Galleria mellonella larvae were evaluated for pathogenicity on larvae of the V instar of P. vorax, a pest of economic importance for the Solanum tuberosum crop in Ecuador. The "Five on One" method was used for isolates of the genus Heterorhabditis and "One on One" for isolates of the genus Steinernema. Mortality was recorded 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours after inoculation. From the results obtained, a mortality of 68% and 57% was observed with isolates CC01 and CC03, respectively. The nematodes of the genus Heterorhabditis CH06 and H4D presented mortalities of 47% and 48%. The results obtained were subjected to Probit analysis, in which a mean lethal dose (LD50) of 3.2 IJs/larva was determined for isolates CC01 and CC03, respectively. The results shown allow us to assert that isolates CC01 and CC03 are presented as a promising alternative for the biological control of P. vorax in Solanum tuberosum crops in Ecuador.
