Abstract

Acetes paraguayensis is a freshwater shrimp that has a wide distribution towards the Atlantic slope of the southern American continent. It was described for the Paraná and Amazon Basins and is the only freshwater species of the genus in Ecuador. For the present study, 15 specimens from collections of the Escuela Politécnica Nacional and the Universidad Nacional del Azuay were reviewed, and with whose records the distribution of this species is extended, in approximately 3,516 km, from the type locality, towards the sub-basin of the Napo River in the provinces of Sucumbíos and Orellana, below 250 meters above sea level. These records contribute, from a biogeographical perspective, to a better understanding of their distribution within the Amazon basin.
