Abstract

This paper describes the implementation of a prototype for vehicle control and location called SCL (Control and Location System) that makes use of the short message service (SMS) of the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) network for its administration, from a graphical user interface developed in J2ME (Java2 Micro Edition). This system comprises two main parts: a Control and Location Card (TCL) and the J2ME interface. The design of the TCL hardware is detailed, describing its components, the interconnection between them, their technical considerations, and the general characteristics of the application in J2ME.
