Abstract

The 21st century has witnessed the rise of several authoritarian regimes, raising global concerns about their implications for world peace and security. This study focuses on the governments of Russia under Vladimir Putin and North Korea under Kim Jong-un, characterized by strict control over information and repressive policies. The motivation for this research lies in the need to understand how these regimes affect global stability, a topic that has been little explored due to the secrecy surrounding them. A qualitative methodology and an exploratory approach were adopted to address this issue, using literature review and semi-structured interviews as data collection tools. These techniques allowed for a deeper and more contextualized understanding of the impact of these regimes. The study's results reveal that both governments employ a combination of internal control and aggressive foreign policies that destabilize world peace and security. In Russia, extensive use of propaganda and disinformation was observed to consolidate internal power and exert influence abroad. In North Korea, the persistence in nuclear development and constant military provocations have maintained continuous tension in the region. The main contribution of this study lies in providing a comprehensive and articulated view of the impact of these authoritarian regimes, which can serve as a basis for future research and international policies. This research offers a novel perspective on the topic, highlighting the need for continuous and detailed analysis of these phenomena.
